Community Developers Network: Excellence in Multi-Family Housing Design

November 20, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

The Connecticut Housing Coalition would like to invite you to our Community Developers Network’s Excellence in Multi-Family Housing Design training. The design of affordable multi-family housing has moved into the 21st century.  Good design in new or renovated housing development not only replicates the historic and aesthetic characteristics of the neighborhood in which it is located; it also incorporates energy efficient materials and systems and contributes to resident and community well-being. This training will explore how communities, developers and architects achieve the very best in sustainable development that is affordable.  The focus will be on excellence in design, best practices, and meeting energy-efficient standards. Participants will have the opportunity to “workshop” their design concepts and projects and talk about problems, solutions, and new ideas.

Topics will Include:

  • Density and design,
  • Award-winning multi-family rental properties and what makes them stand out,
  • Energy efficiency meets design excellence,
  • Passive House standards in affordable housing,
  • Design and healthy living environments,
  • Project case studies, and
  • DOH and CHFA requirements and guidelines and how they insure high quality development.

Trainer: Kathy Dorgan, Dorgan Architecture and Planning

  • Anne-Marie Lubenau, Director , Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence Bruner Foundation, Harvard University
  • Timothy McDonald, Associate Professor, Tyler School of Art-Architecture, Temple University
